Sunday evening, I got a chance to spend some time with a group of girls that Janice and I have become good friends with. They are three girls that attend Aristotle University and have been so sweet to take us out a few times and show us different parts of the city. One of the girls, Maria, volunteers for different city organizations, and we were invited by one organization to help promote the Festival of St. Demetrius. The festival celebrates St. Demetrius, since he was the patron and is the protector of Thessaloniki. When we were passing out flyers that explained the different festival events, all I could say was "Ena Festeval Demetrius" and smile. When someone would ask me a question, all I would do was smile really big and repeat "Ena Festeval Demetrius". It was so funny! The umbrellas have become a trademark for this event... and for no particular reason. Maria said all they were there for was to make us stand out... and we did!
| Our friends! Aliki, Maria, Thalia, Me, Janice, and Kristina. We were about to start handing out the flyers... and naturally there was a beautiful sunset along the waterfront! |
